Rarely--in my experience, at least--is Price Lake perfectly still. A light breeze almost always
ruffles the surface, creating cascades of miniature waves that make their way across the
surface, lapping gently at the shore. This autumn morning, however, only moments after
sunrise, the lake's surface was nearly dead calm, providing a perfect mirror of the images and
colors of overhanging trees and shoreline rocks. I must have hundreds of photos of Price
Lake in my archives, and this shot is the one of the few without a number of ripples in the
water. To me, the stillness of the lake's surface evokes a quiet, serene mood that usually
isn't present in images of this popular body of water near Blowing Rock.
