The pale, luminous greens of early spring contrast appealingly with the white water of rushing mountain streams. No location in my area offers more scenes of this nature than Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I found the airiness and twisted, bent shape of this old moss-covered tree appealing, and the overhang of its spring-clad branches contrasts nicely with this section of the Middle Prong of the Little River. This scene is located on the gravel road beyond the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont, just off the Little River Road near Townsend, Tennessee. It makes me think of the youth, innocence and rebirth that appears briefly every spring season.
