My favorite nature photography subject is probably water--waterfalls, lakes, or streams-- in any season. Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers dozens of opportunities for water photography, from picturesque waterfalls and cascades to rushing streams. One such spot is the Middle Prong of the Little River. Most traffic passes by the entrance to this special area of the park, rushing on their way to heavily visited Cades Cove. Though one will certainly not be lonely on Middle Prong, neither does the photographer have to worry about oncoming auto traffic; there is plenty of space for quiet enjoyment and peaceful introspection. The stream itself is a typically beautiful, brawling mountain creek, providing many opportunities for all types of water photography, ranging from the wide angle grand scenic style shot to extractions of repeating patterns of rock and rapid, such as this particular view.
