winter twilight, price lake

Price Lake is one of my favorite nearby photographic locations. Depending on season, weather, time of day, and lighting conditions, amazingly varied photographs can be made at the lake, often from exactly the same spot. It is a good location for practicing the assignment, often included in photography courses, of shooting the same location over and over at many different times. On this February morning, I arrived at the lake just before dawn. The near-cloudless sky was brightened by a full moon, and the purple and lavender shades of the pre-dawn twilight provided a pleasing pastel tint to the ice covering much of the lake's surface. I shot a number of frames before the cold and dissipating light convinced me to call it a day; in my opinion, this shot best captures the mood of that cold, peaceful morning.
