Spending a lot of time practicing and thinking about photography, as I do, one develops a heightened sense of potential photographic subjects for certain weather, seasons, lighting conditions, etc. This little rural church, located on Clark's Creek Road in Watauga County, is one example of such photographic cataloging. I noticed the almost quaint little building on a late autumn drive; most leaves had long since fallen and there was no photo to be had that day, so I drove on. But I remembered the rock work and the arched doorway of the church and made a mental note to photograph the church when better conditions were available. When we experienced what--in recent years--qualified as a rather heavy snowfall the following February, I rose early, packed my photography gear, and made the short drive from my home to the church. I exposed at least two dozen frames that morning, but this one is my favorite; it has also been my best seller from that morning's photographic work.
