The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is perhaps the most easily accessed portion of Great
Smoky Mountains National Park that also provides a variety of photographic subjects. Near
the end of the one-way drive is the Place of a Thousand Drips--an area of high, steep
cliffs rising to the left of the road and, particulary in spring, literally gushing with small streams
and cascades of water. It would be very easy for a serious nature photographer to spend
several hours at this spot, as it offers many different compositions and photographic angles. I
have hundreds of shots made in and around the Drips area, ranging from thin, almost
feathery plumes of water to more substantial flows such as the one depicted in this shot.
